Reformer Pilates

Reformer Pilates is similar yet very different to mat based Pilates. Reformer Pilates is done using the Pilates reformer machine and is generally more intense and more dynamic than mat based Pilates as it adds resistance to the Pilates exercises via the use of the springs which form part of the machine.

Reformer Pilates is superior to mat based Pilates as the repertoire of exercises available is greatly increased providing far more variety. The exercises usually work muscles through a large range of motion which is ideal for building and toning muscles as well increasing stability through the joints. Reformer Pilates works more areas than matwork as matwork is mostly core whereas reformer works the entire body and more the peripheral muscles of the arms and legs.

Pilates Mat-Work

Pilates is a low impact total body exercise that focuses on flexibility, muscular strength and endurance.

Pilates can be performed every day if desired, with the ability to exercise the whole body or certain areas.

Pilates is very different and more beneficial than weight training. Weight training focuses on power and strength, which can cause muscle micro-damage. Pilates is focused on longer sets of endurance, causing less strain on the muscles, allowing more positive and longer term benefits to your body.

Like most exercise techniques, Pilates is also good for the mind. It works by connecting the mind to the body, activating muscles in the body which tend to be switched off. This leads to a happier and healthier lifestyle physically and mentally.

All round, Pilates is one of the best exercises you can perform to retain a happy and healthy lifestyle.
